BJJ Legend vs SUMO Champion
Royce Gracie was set to fight Chad “Akebono” Rowan in an MMA match on New Year’s Eve 2004.
Akebono, a former multiple sumo wrestling champion was Royce’s biggest opponent. Royce weighing in at 86kg and Akebono at 205kg, a weight difference was 120kg (265 pounds).
Shockingly, the fight only lasted 133 seconds with an Omoplata submission.
This video focuses on the Omoplata far hook; this position allows you to control your opponent while having many submission options and follow-ups. Many 10th Planet JJ practitioners use this position with the Rubber Guard and are very successful at it in competition. Hope you all enjoy.
