Aikido technique NIKYO against grip and strike attacks, by Stefan Stenudd, 7 dan Aikikai shihan
Here is the basic aikido technique nikyo, applied against some grip and strike attacks. Nikyo is one of the pinning techniques, katame waza, as opposed to the throws, nage waza.
I mostly show it slowly for clarity, and mainly gotai (from a static starting point). But there is also some jutai (moving as the attack approaches). In most cases, there is little difference between gotai and jutai versions of nikyo, except the timing.
Nikyo is one of the basic techniques in aikido. It simply means “second teaching”. It consists of a wrist lock that can be quite convincing, when done correctly 🙂 In its basic form it ends with a pinning on the floor – I show it a few times on the video, but far from always.
